Over the past 15 years, 64 radio-receiving dishes have emerged, giving birth to the MeerKAT telescope, a precursor to the awe-inspiring Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO), set to be the world’s largest radio telescope when completed in 2030.
We speak to two individuals who’ve delved deep into this cosmic journey.
First, we have filmmaker Dane Dodds, whose award-winning documentary, “!Aitsa,” explores the intellectual and scientific dimensions of the SKAO alongside the rich indigenous cosmology of the ǀXam San people living in the Karoo today.
And Neil Rusch an expert in the narrative history of the country’s bushpeople. He served as an advisor on the film.
