Local governments need a proper strategy to deal with housing occupations and providing alternative accommodation to those who are evicted.
This is the assertion of constitutional-property law attorney, Sithelo Magagula.
He was speaking as there is concern over the rate at which properties are being occupied, with landowners’ hands tied in removing them from their land.
It comes as the country’s dictate that evictees must be given alternative accommodation.
They also need to be satisfied with the other location.
But Magagula says that this is causing an even bigger problem in the housing sector.
He says that the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act is being manipulated.
